Three Men “Get Married” in Colombia

Alejandro Rodriguez, Manuel Bermudez and Victor Hugo Prada will legally unite their destinies after Colombia has decided to legally recognize their union, writes The Guardian.

The ceremony will be held in the following months and will be the first of its kind in Colombia and probably in the world.

“We want to make this relationship public because we have no reason to hide it, we just want to help people understand that there are different types of love and different families”, revealed 23-year-old Victor Hugo Prada, the youngest of the three.
According to the British publication, in Colombia, group marriages are considered illegal, but for these three, a lawyer specialized in marriages and divorces, “discovered” a glitch, mentioned in the Colombian Civil Code as a: “special patrimony union”.
And furthermore, the documents prove the three partners form a family and they are now legal partners.
Manuel and Alejandro started dating 18 years ago and in 2000, the pair became Colombia’s first legally gay married couple.
Four years ago, the pair met their third partner, Victor.
Prada works as an actor and he was more than happy to join his two partners in the patrimonial regime legally known in Colombia as “trieja”.
Although this type of union is common, this is the first “to have been legalized,” German Rincon Perfetti, an LGBTI lawyer (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and intersex), revealed for AFP.
“It is an acknowledgment that there are other types of families”, he said, according to Agerpres.
